The Sessions

Location, Location, Location

The location of the shoot depends a great deal on the people in the photos. It is all about the feel and the look of your dream photographs. Before the shoot we talk all about what you want out of your session and final photos and we pick a location based on you and what you are looking for. I have a ton of great places that I love to shoot at but if there is that somewhere special that you have in mind I am up for it!

I do both on site locations or in home sessions. If you are more comfortable at home or if you have a killer backyard I am more than happy to come to you. In home sessions also work great for the younger kids. They tend to be more comfy and natural there.

What to Wear ?!?!

This is the question I am asked most often before a session. I am sorry there isn’t really an answer. It depends on you and the feel that you want in your photographs. But here are a few tips that may help

  • Wear something that is comfortable to you. Don’t wear something that you would not normally wear.

  • Try to have everyone in the shoot match, but not too matchy matchy. Wear complimentary colors and clothing that is in the same hue.

  • Try not to wear something with large graphics. They tend to distract in photos and sometimes shoot a little funny.

  • Think about the colors of your home. If you want to hang your photographs in someplace special try and match that décor.

  • Girls, bring some flats along to on location sessions. We tend to walk around during a session trying out a bunch of fun spots and flats make changing locations easier.

I also have a pintrest board with ideas, check it out

Weather

Sometimes Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate and rains on our session. If inclement weather should happen, no worries. I keep an eye on the weather forecast throughout the week of your session and contact you (the day of or day before your session) if

I feel the session may need to be moved earlier or later in the day or re-scheduled.

What Time and How Long?!?!

Beautiful photography depends so much on beautiful light. The closer you get to sunrise / sunset and farther away from noon the yummier the light. I always try and book sessions when the light is the best and the furthest away from noon as possible.

Most portrait sessions take between one to two hours. It depends on the family and couple. If your session has little ones joining in they really dictate the length of the session. Typically I have found that they are up for about 30 mins or so. Bring a snack to bribe them with. This works like a charm when smiles start slipping. I can’t tell you how many times cookies have saved a session :).
